Don't worry, be happy - No. 4

Here’s a reminder for this week. To keep in mind and to learn a little of, if only a little:

All week I've been running around being busy busy busy... And that one day I didn't have anything important to do I felt restless.

Gorgeous Garland

Walking into London's Habitat one day made me fall in love with Tord Boontje, well, his products. Especially his Garland light. His products are inspired by nature and the Garland light is like a string of leaves and flowers and can be wrapped around a light bulb. I bought one and as prescribed I wrapped it around my light bulb at home. But since I've moved I wanted to use it in a different way.

Pallet love

There are so many great destinies for a pallet besides the industry of efficiently moving goods. A pallet is basically a few boards put together. Un-pallet the thing and you have loose boards that can be put together as a table, chair, bed, bench, crate etc. A creative mind can think of some more brilliant suggestions.
A while ago I posted about using a pallet to make a bench on my tiny balcony (which I am still about to do..) and since then I found so many more wonderful ideas on Pinterest and online. I found these additional inspirational ideas to put on the 'I will, and I repeat (to make it sound more convincing), I sure will, one day, absolutely, soon(...ish), definitely make this! this time for real, no excuses'-type of list.

The Fashionmachine

When I was living in London for half a year in 2007-2008, I (of course) visited the V&A. My camera and I loved it there and we both enjoyed every showcase. Several angles were tried and I really tried not let the glass window show on the picture. In vain, of course...
But there was also this big picture of some weird wheel, with beautifully drawn silhouettes. I was impressed and I had to share that feeling with my camera. So again, different poses were taken to get the perfect angle. This time not to avoid a glass window but some inescapable absolutely annoying lights. And not to mention all the other impressed visitors who were, like me and my camera, trying to get the perfect picture and were getting in even more difficult poses to avoid the absolutely annoying lights.
Well, eventually I succeeded, kind of:

This week's reminder emphasizes the development. I tend to stay at the negative side

Cardboard Fun

We all know the cardboard storage boxes from IKEA, the cardboard containers and packagings we come across in the kitchen and the cardboard sleeves from Starbucks. We use cardboard during crafting: you can turn an ordinary shoebox into a shoebox diorama, make doll houses, castles, all types of toys, flowers and a lot of other amazing crafty things.
But cardboard can be even more.
Designers have been very busy with creating entire interiors made out of cardboard and some amazing moms create the most creative crafts with it. Here are a couple of inspiring ideas to use cardboard in your home. Some you can buy, some you can make yourself, and some things are already made by others and are just beautiful to look at.

Lessons are taught every day. Lessons are learned on occasion…
Not everyone likes to be taught a lesson, not every lesson is learned. Every person can tell you to enjoy life, to seize the day, to follow your heart and that it is as it is. But do you listen? Do you have those lessons in mind when you wake up at six in the morning by your alarm on a gray and rainy day, and open your eyes to go to work again? When everything that can go wrong on one day goes completely wrong? When you seem to have lost that happy-feeling for a while?

Well I don’t, so I need to be reminded of those lessons. Call me stubborn, but I need it. Every time a life-lesson is taught to you, you think ‘yes, I know…’, but you do smile a little just because you know it’s true. And that message sticks with you for a while.
So to make you smile, to let you say ‘I know…’ and to let a little life-lesson stick with you for a while, I thought it would be nice to send out a weekly reminder. For myself, because it helps, and for anyone who needs a reminder too.

I found this week’s reminder in ´Once upon a time´. A really entertaining series about all the storybook characters which are banned to our world by the evil queen. They don´t remember who they are, until the main character comes to their town and everything starts to change.
Anyway, the next line comes from one of the episodes and I really loved it. Because in contrast to the series, life isn’t like a fairy tale. Sometimes you just need someone not to be nice and to tell you just like it is. This is one of those lessons. I find it really inspiring and I know that your life won't change overnight. But all good things come in small packages, right?

Spring is lost...

I don’t know what it’s like in the rest of the world but where I live spring is a little lost. Some time ago I posted about spring fever and how excited I was to give my tiny boring balconies a complete make-over. But the weather hasn’t been very supportive. In the meantime I have bought a lot of flowers and plants but they’re all still save inside. Which isn’t bad either since it makes the house look better. So here are a few photo's I took and some pictures I found to welcome the sun and to show spring the way into your house, without having to buy a new rug, curtains or expensive colorful painting.

Tea-riffic...!

There is something about tea.
Tea connects, it calms you down, it makes you feel better when you´re sick, it warms you up when your cold, it keeps you company when your feeling sad and it clears your head.

Tea purifies your skin, helps you lose weight, makes your headache disappear and is good for your insides, so they say.
You can have tea in all types of colors: green, black, strawberry red, white, blueberry blue, or just a brown-like color.
Tea makes you sit on the toilet twenty times a day, it makes you burn your tongue and it lets you wait patiently until it has cooled.

Spring fever

Spring has really started now and it´s quite addictive too, if you ask me. Normally I´m not really a color and flower type of person when it comes to decorating the house. I stick to basic colors like grey, black and white combined with a wooden floor mostly.  But when the only colors in your house are the book covers in your bookcase, it´s time for a change, isn’t it?
So I found some inspirational pictures and ideas to make your home spring-worthy. Some I would love to have, some I just love to look at, all together will make my house look a bit like an exploded coloring book but all of this makes me smile and wants me to indulge my house with spring-things.

These balls of string are really easy to make. If you click on the bottom picture you will see the tutorial. You can use them as decoration on the table,

My Home is my Castle

Some houses don´t need interior design or old beautiful furniture to make it look great, they are already great by themselves. Because of their stained-glass windows, large porches, enormous gardens with fairytale-like appearances, their beautiful stairs, small rooms, pointy roofs, high ceilings and gorgeous details. Houses you see in films (mostly horror ones, but nevertheless), in dreams and described in the most adventurous stories. Houses of which you  hope to one day stumble upon and find that it’s for sale when you just happen to have won the lottery or inherited a huge amount of money from some aunt you never knew you had. Houses in the most breathtaking environments with large trees, a lake and a view of mountains, ocean or deer from your kitchen window every morning. Fairytale-looking houses with a model-looking single neighbor, who brings you flowers from his own garden one day and whom you desperately fall in love with and to have the most adorable children with…
Okey, I digress…
I mean houses like Villekulla and like a mysterious tiny Hogwartscastle; your personal palace. Those amazing houses that take your breath away and never give it back. Some examples:
